Emotional Debt

screen print on inkjet print, 59,7 x 39,5 cm, 2024

The series of prints ‘Emotional Debt’ (kitchen, bedroom, living room) pairs a simplified pattern of the tulip with photographs of my own apartment in Brussels (domestic photographs made upon moving in). Borrowed from the ‘WhatsApp’ emoji repertoire, as an immaterial lovers’s currency, the tulip works as the symbol for ‘tulip mania’ - the first financial speculative bubble in history.  The tulip outlines haunt, obstruct, disrupt the photographic image questioning the entanglement of our conditions of living with the financial market.
